Confession. Penance. Reconciliation. Call it what you will, this Sacrament of Mercy is one of the most important gifts Christ has left us through the Church, but it is also one of the most misunderstood, particularly among young people. This resource is designed to help youth groups, religious education programs, and Catholic high school teachers prepare their students to receive the sacrament by giving them a better understanding of the nature and importance of the gift of the Sacrament of Mercy.
This resource comes to you as an E-product, and you are permitted to reproduce it as you wish for use within your own program. It is a complete package, including teaching aides, prayers, handouts, and outlines.
Choose the “Full” resource for materials suited perfectly for religious education programs and other groups where meeting time is limited. Choose the “Expanded” resource for a complete package suited for Youth Ministry or Catholic Schools where time is more available. The “Expanded” edition is also designed to help teachers & catechists at all levels who are interested in going deeper into the importance of the sacrament of confession/penance/reconciliation with their students, and helping them be more prepared to receive the sacrament. It would also serve as an excellent supplemental guide for catechists presenting just the basic material to their students.
Joshua Dieterich is currently the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Slinger, WI, as well as a member of the executive committee of WYRE Ministries. He has been in catechetics and youth ministry for nearly 10 years, working with almost every age group from 1st grade to young adults.
He received his Dual B.A. in Religious Studies and Interdisciplinary Humanities (Philosophy and European History) from the University of West Florida, before going on to do his master’s work in Church History at Catholic Theological Union, along with his Advanced Youth Ministry Certification from Franciscan University of Steubenville. He has also done graduate studies in education at Cardinal Stritch University. When he is not ministering, Josh enjoys time with his wife Missy and their children Luke, JohnPaul, and Nathanael, and Christina, as well as music, golf, reading, and travelling.
